Arbor Vitae is an Edinburgh based Arboricultural business committed to quality
and professional service, providing Tree Surgery, Felling, Hedge Trimming, Tree Condition Inspections, Tree Condition Surveys and BS5837 (Development Site) Surveys. We are currently involved in the Edinburgh Tree Survey, an audit of 28,000 council owned trees.
Mike is currently carrying out voluntary work in India for the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. He is climbing trees of up to 70 metres in height in the Sacred Grove in the Western Ghats - an internationally recognised biodiversity hotspot in the Karnakata region. The research is looking at the impact of habitat fragmentation on gene flow and reproductive ecology on threatened endemic trees.
Mike has previously climbed trees for Dr Chris Kettle in Borneo, and is working in India alongside Dr Kettle's PhD student - Sascha Ismail.
Mike's colleagues, Alex Alongi & Adam Riedi, will be dealing with enquiries for tree surgery and consultancy until his return on 28th August 2010.
We are insured for £5M Public Liability.
All tree sugeons and workers are fully trained, certified and competent.
All tree work is carried out to the minimum of BS3998 standard.

Dismantle of 30 metre high dead Douglas Fir tree in Comrie

This tree died suddenly the previous summer. It was towering over a two-storey house, and was situated right next to a road. The drop-zone was quite restricted, being a small area between the house, a hedge and an apple tree. The road and a greenhouse also had to be avoided.
